November Favorites

Another month, another favorites post. November was actually a good month beauty-wise because we did use a lot of fall related products. So let’s check them out, shall we?

Beauty:

Absolutely obsessed with purples this month. I layered MAC’s Rebel with Wet ‘n’ Wild Megalast Matte lipstick in Vamp it Up and the effect was just TOO good. I am wearing this combo in the picture below.

I am bored.

DSC_0003 Carrying on the purple theme, I finally tried out OPI’s Every Month is Oktoberfest which I bought a few month ago. I hardly ever wear the same color on my fingers and toes but this one deserved it. It looks burgundy in the bottle but the actual color is an inky purple shot through with the finest red shimmer. The shimmer gives the polish a multi-dimensional finish that is so pretty. Totally a fan.

Television:

jessica-jones-netflix-poster

Amna and I binged on Jessica Jones like no one’s business. This show is the second in the Marvel and Netflix collaboration the first being Daredevil that came out earlier this year. Jessica Jones is about a young woman who is a private investigator with special powers and she is on the hunt for a man named Kilgrave. This show is noir, dark, violent and very feminist. Jessica Jones played by Krytsen Ritter, is a strong female and all the friendships on this show are between women, collaborating and helping each other. Highly recommended if you are a fan of series’ based on comic books. I also started another show called Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. Despite the sexist name, the show is smart, witty and totally feminist. A high-flying New York lawyer moves to California in the hopes of reuniting with her high school boyfriend. Peppered with hilarious songs like “The Sexy Getting Ready Song,” that calls out all the rituals women go through to please men, Crazy Ex- Girlfriend is funny with a lot of heart.

Books:

I have not finished this book but I am putting it here because I am loving it. Hunger Makes Me a Modern Girl by Carrie Brownstein is a beautiful memoir about living the artistic life, loneliness and trying to create something. Brownstein is a member of the feminist punk-rock band Sleater-Kinney (and tbh I did not know about them until I went to the States) and she writes about the sexism she and her bandmates faced while trying to be “women in rock,” something Pakistani women can relate to very much given how sexist and misogynistic our media is.

Activities:

Untitled-1

This month Amna and I attended four out of the six plays at NAPA’s Young Directors Theatre Festival. Ranging from contemporary to Shakespeare and folk tales like Hatim Tai, we loved watching the range of acting and performances on display. Here are the reviews for Time Stands Still, Here Lies a Noble Man, Hatim Tai and Ghosts.
I also help write blogs and manage social media for Desi Writers’ Lounge and this month I did a 30day Instagram challenge where I uploaded to the Instagram (check it out @dwlpapercuts) everyday. I had a blast making these posts and  though it wasn’t easy to come up with one everyday, I did the best I could.
The 21 Day Fix was a major favorite this month. Staying on a healthy eating plan and working out has been so good. We wrote all about it here.

Food: We treated ourselves to breakfast at Cosmopolitan and it was SO good. The fluffy omelette, decadent Nutella roll-ups and sexy eggs perched on chicken breasts (no innuendos intended) was so delicious, treating ourselves after the Fix was totally worth it.

On Saturdays, we have Nutella roll-ups. A photo posted by atiya (@atiya107) on

Music:

And lastly we have been loving Selena Gomez’s new album Revival. The standout songs are ‘Good For You’, ‘Hands To Myself, ‘Same Old Love’ and ‘Revival’. If you are a Selenator, let us know what your favorite Selena Gomez songs are.
