5 days Of Ramadan Made Easy: Day 1

Happy 1st Ramazan! We hope you all had a fulfilling first roza and that those ahead will be smooth sailing as well!

We have some exciting posts coming up this week. We have partnered up with National Foods to bring you a fun food series where we will be sharing our experiences of trying out recipes from National Foods’ website, Made Easy. And just in time for Ramazan. First up, we have that classic restaurant iftar fave: Peri Bites!

So MadeEasy has tons of iftar-friendly recipes and this one had a fancy video so we thought, let’s recreate it. We did learn a few things along the way the first being that Amna really did not understand the different between using sliced cheese and boxed cheddar, smh.

Anyway, here’s the recipe:

You will need:

250 grams chicken breast, sliced
20 chillies, slit lengthways and deseeded
2 tablespoons oil
1 tablespoons National Achar Gosht Masala
½ teaspoon ginger/garlic paste
Strips of cheddar cheese
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup water
Breadcrumbs

  • Slice the chicken breast into strips and then cut those strips into thirds. We found that the smaller the strip the better they will fit in the chillies. Fry the chicken in a little bit of oil with 2 tablespoons of the National Achar Gosht Masala till done.

  • Cut slices of cheese from a block of cheddar and make strips the size of the chicken. This is better than shredding the cheese because it makes stuffing them a pain and a half.
  • Place one strip of chicken and one strip of cheese in one sliced chilli and set aside. Make the rest of your peri bites.

  • Mix the all-purpose flour and water into a paste. We would suggest to halve the given amounts listed in the video as there was way too much batter for the amount of bites we had.
  • Dip the stuffed chilies in the prepared batter and coat with breadcrumbs. Lay all your chillies out on a plate and out it in the freezer for 30 minutes.
  • Deep fry in hot oil and drain on paper towels. Serve with National Foods’ Mango Chilli Sauce for a tangy dip.

I would say this is a moderately easy recipe because there is a bit of fiddling about with the chillies and there are a couple of components to prepare but hey, all in a day’s iftari!

The family thoroughly enjoyed these though they were wayyy too spicy but that did not stop them from going back for seconds. So I would say these were a winner.

  4. It looks delectable but I am not gonna lie and say I will try it, ever, because I dont like to cook at all 😛 But I can share it with my mother, she would love to give it a try 🙂
